2019 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Domaine Font de Courtedune
2019 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Domaine Font de Courtedune
Lovely sense of finesse on the nose, very pure, great fruit. Plum and strawberry with a noticeable spicy kick to the aromatics. Rounded but with no excess weight or heaviness, and smooth in tannin. The alcohol is certainly present, but it’s not overly full-bodied, and the finish is long. The use of whole bunch is quite discrete, but it adds a savoury note to the finish and helps to bring freshness. A Châteauneuf-du-Pape of great finesse. You could drink this now, but wait until 2027 for more complexity. Whole-bunch fermented and aged in concrete. 99% Grenache, the rest a gaggle of other Châteauneuf-du-Pape varieties. 60- to 70-year-old vines on average, with some up to 100 years old. The main parcels are located in Cristia, La Guigasse, Le Pointu, Saint-George, La Crau Est and Font de Michelle; all are sandy except the last one.Matt Walls, www.decanter.com, 9th Aug 2022
