Château de Bousval makes thrilling, biodynamic wines from Belgium`s Jardins de Wallonie. The property was the genesis of nature lover, Michel Verhaeghe de Naeyer, who, seeing potential in an area once deemed to be too cool for vines, made his first vineyard plantings in 2014. Gouttes d’O fermented and aged for 10 months in a combination of old oak barrels (40% of the blend), stainless steel vats, amphora and concrete eggs. Brightness shines through this wine, from the pale lemon-green colour to the floral aromas and the wonderfully fine acidity. The fruit is ripe and delicate, with a beautifully precise style. The finish is racy, lemony and long-flavoured. Lovers of Premier and Grand Cru Chablis will certainly enjoy this (for drinking 2024-2026+).
“I wrote up the 2019 vintage of this wine in my MoneyWeek column many moons ago when the HH&C team first discovered it, and this new vintage is even finer. It is not a huge statement to say this is the finest Belgian wine I have ever tasted because I rarely see examples, but on a global stage, this is comparable to a refined, willowy Chablis in silhouette and style.”
