2015 Château Haut-Batailley, 5ème Cru Classé Pauillac

This château belongs to the same family as Ch. Grand-Puy-Lacoste. Its enlightened owner, François-Xavier Borie, completely modernised the winery in 2006, hiring a talented wine-maker who had trained with leading Médoc specialist Eric Boissenot, who is also consultant oenologist here. The property is situated in the southern part of Pauillac, bordering the Saint-Julien appellation. One can feel the influence of the neighbourhood, which is noted for its wines’ charm, delicacy and finesse. This 2015 has harmonious, fresh fruitiness, with gentle tannins. 72% Cabernet Sauvignon with 28% Merlot make up the blend, the wine showing medium-deep, ruby-purple colour, and abundantly ripe, floral aromas. The palate has elegant structure with lovely, spiced fruit, all elements being subtly balanced, with the finish long-drawn out, and fine (for drinking 2024-2028+).
