2015 Louis Roederer, Brut Vintage

2015 followed the continental trend of that decade: a mild, wet winter and a hot, dry summer. Record-breaking temperatures and water stress were experienced during the hot, dry summer. However, very welcome rain arrived in the second half of August, giving the vines much needed relief. Thanks to this fresh finish to the growing season, the vines produced juicy, ripe and concentrated grapes. Roederer`s ambition was to capture this rich concentration, which is the hallmark of the 2015 vintage.

The blend in 2015 is 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay, with 34% of the wine vinified in oak tuns with weekly bâtonnage (stirring by hand); it underwent 24% malolactic fermentation. It aged for four years in the Louis Roederer cellars, and was left for six months after disgorgement to attain optimal maturity. Dosage is 8g/l.

Aromas are intense and deep, recalling red fruits, spiced peaches, with hints of smoke and toast. Palate is dynamic, broad and powerful, having a beautiful, fleshy texture, thanks to the abundance of silky-smooth bubbles. Structure is energetic and precise, the finish being uplifting and long-flavoured. Whilst being richly concentrated and generous, this also has elegance and finesse – hallmarks of a great vintage champagne.
