2022 Eisenstadt Neuburger/Weissburgunder, Tinhof, Burgenland

The rarely seen Neuburger grape is unique to Austria: “for me, the style is similar to Chenin Blanc,” Erwin Tinhof told us. “It likes limestone, has excellent structure and natural acidity, giving wines that are full of character.” Here, it makes up 40% of the blend, with Weissburgunder (Pinot Blanc) the balance, from plots lying on gentle hills in Tinhof`s hometown of Eisenstadt. Fermented and matured in large, old wooden casks, aromas are perfumed and bright, with notes of spiced lemon and grapefruit. Palate has rounded, textural complexity, with richness beautifully balanced by racy, flinty freshness.
